Key Insight: 64% of tracked layoffs came from just Amazon, Intel, and Microsoft — but the trend spans 284 companies across every tech subsector.
Severance Gap: Median severance offered was 6 weeks — but many employees negotiated up to 3 months by documenting their contributions and citing WARN Act timelines.
Silver Lining: Companies hiring aggressively in AI roles include Anthropic, OpenAI, and scale-up AI startups — with many roles not requiring PhDs.
Common Questions

Layoff Data FAQ

Where does LayoffScope get its data?

We aggregate data from SEC filings, company press releases, earnings calls, verified news reports (Reuters, Bloomberg, WSJ), and layoffs.fyi. All figures are approximate and represent public information.

Why do some companies appear multiple times?

Companies like Amazon and Microsoft conducted multiple rounds of layoffs across different divisions and timeframes. Each wave is tracked separately to reflect the true scope of workforce reductions.

Are contractors counted in these numbers?

Generally no. Most official announcements and filings cover full-time employees only. Contractor eliminations — which can be equally large — are rarely disclosed publicly and are therefore underrepresented in all industry data.

How often is the database updated?

We aim to update LayoffScope weekly, with major layoff events added within 24–48 hours of credible reporting. Each entry is verified against at least two independent sources.
